How NanoClear™ works

A hardened layer with nanoparticles embedded in it

NanoClear™ is built in layers on the inside of the lens:

  1. The lens. A polycarbonate lens, the same material as the rest of the goggle.
  2. The hardening layer. A specialised layer bonded to the inner surface. It also increases the surface hardness of the lens.
  3. Hydrophilic nanoparticles. Embedded into the hardening layer through an advanced nano-embedding process. They are part of the surface, not a film sitting on top of it.

What happens when you swim

Warm air inside the goggles condenses on the cooler lens. The hydrophilic nanoparticles attract the water molecules to the lens surface, so instead of gathering into beads they spread into a thin, even film of water. Light passes straight through that film, so your view stays clear.

Why embedding matters

Because the nanoparticles are integrated into a hardened layer rather than sprayed on, the treatment is not designed to wash off. When a NanoClear™ lens starts to fog, the cause is usually dirt, oils or sunscreen sitting on the surface and blocking the nanoparticles from the water. A firm thumb swipe cleans that residue away and the surface works again. The steps are on How to use it.

Good to know

  • NanoClear™ is water-based and works with plain water. It needs no spray, gel or soap.
  • It sits on the inside of the lens only, so the activation steps are all about the inner surface.
  • Anti-fog is only as good as the seal. Fit your goggles properly so water and air leaks don't undermine it.
